How to build Your Relationship with Jesus Christ

How to build Relationships with Jesus

Receive Jesus as Your Lord and personal Saviour

In order to have a relationship with Jesus, you must first receive Him as your Lord and personal Savior. You must first believe in Him and trust in Him. You cannot have a relationship with someone you don't know and trust. It's one thing to know about Jesus, but it's another thing to relate with Him personally. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and you believe in your heart that God raised Him up from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9). Doing this marks the beginning of a beautiful relationship with you and Jesus.

Accept His love - You are Precious

Recognise that you are very very precious to God and He loves you unconditionally - and He really wants a relationship with you His child. John 3:16 God paid a high price for your freedom. If you understand how wide, how long, how high and how deep God loves you, you would want to have a relationship with him. (Isaiah 43:4) (Ephesians 3:14-19)

How High Is God’s Love

The height of God’s love talks about the extent of love. His love is unconditional. Romans 8:38-39 tells us height of God’s love “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. The height of God’s love is that His love overlooks our mistake and wrongs. It’s amazing to know that NOTHING, not even our own faults, wrongs can separate us from His love. It’s amazing to comprehend the love of God in this way. The reason many of us gets lonely is we do not key into the knowledge of the height of God’s love. The knowledge of God’s love brings completion to our life and it destroys low self-esteem and eliminates loneliness. Let us key into His unconditional love.

It doesn’t matter what we do, where we go and how bad it gets, God loves unconditionally. He loves us wherever we go, He loves us patiently and His love lasts forever, NOTHING can and will EVER separate us from God’s love and finally God loves us so deep so much so that He sacrifices His only son to demonstrate His love for us so we may have peace and salvation.

The easiest way to key into His love is having a relationship with Jesus, by doing this, the Holy Spirit helps us to be aware of His presence and conscious of His love.

Deep Desire

Have a deep desire in your heart - then take zealous steps in having a relationship with Jesus. (Jeremiah 29:13). God promises us that if we seek Him with all our heart, we will find Him. This means putting Him first, spending quality time with Him, putting away all distractions, studying His word, being still in His presence etc. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you this desire. God said in His word that He gives us the desires of our heart (Psalm 37:4), so if you ask Him He said He will give you a heart to know Him (Jeremiah 24:7).

Make Jesus the Centre of Your life.

The best way to have a relationship with Jesus is to make Jesus the centre of You life. If you make Jesus the centre of your life, then you will enjoy a fruitful and joyous relationship with Him through His Spirit, the Holy Spirit. The work of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Jesus, to receive words directly from Jesus to us. We have relationship with Jesus through His Spirit. (John 16:14)

The Holy Spirit comes wherever the name of Jesus is being glorified. That is His ministry. That's the essence of His ministry. So He is very likely to come in power when Jesus is lifted up in truth and made the center of our focus. So if you want the Holy Spirit's power in your life, I encourage you to make Jesus the center of your life.

Recognise that God gave us His Spirit, the Spirit of Truth and all Wisdom, if you recognise that He is a person, you will treat Him as your best friend. See the Holy Spirit as Your best friend. Talk to Him about everything. And always position your heart to hear from Him.

Practical Examples

Communicate With Jesus Through The Holy Spirit

Talking to the Holy Spirit about anything and everything. (That is prayer). Prayer is a two way communication between you and God. Ask Him about anything...then have faith and wait on His answer. At work, at home, school, in your quiet time, as you relax, whatever you are doing, talk to God. I remember one day as I was walking back home from work, I looked up to heaven and just said “hello God” with a smile in my heart, I felt God smiling and waving back at me. I felt so much joy in my heart.

Don’t just talk, position yourself to listen, open your heart to heart from God. Be sensitive to The Holy Spirit. As you begin to sensitive you will recognise the ways God speaks to you. It can be through His joy in your heart, through signs...through dreams, or through trusted people around you.

Dear Jesus Journal - Spend quality time with God in the morning and evening. Use that time to write to Jesus - Dear Jesus Journal. Write to Him about everything abs anything. Your life will be happier than ever, people will begin to see His light in You. This is one of the ways I use to communicate to Him. It gives me joy knowing that I can talk to God about everything and anything. By writing to Jesus, I am able to unburden my heart and cast all my cares and worries to Him. In exchange, He gives me His peace that surpasses all understanding. (1 Peter 5:7), (Matthew 11:28), (Philippians 4:6-7). Get your copy of Dear Jesus Journal Today

Have Faith - this is the only way to please God. (Hebrews 11:6) - It is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek him.

If you seek God with faith, He will reward you. Sometime last year, I nearly lost my home. I did everything I could to ensure I don't loose it, but eventually I was taken to court. I prayed and trusted that the God I serve will not allow myself and my son to be homeless. I put all my trust in God. I had faith and somehow God honored my prayer, in the midst of the storm God gave me peace that I could not explain. Eventually God granted me divine favour with the Judge and I did not loose my home. This is just 1 example of the many ways that God has come through for me through faith in Him.

Always know that God is with You no matter what. (Isaiah 41:10,13 says fear not, for I am with You”). No matter how you feel, if you find yourself in a situation and you feel afraid, hurt or alone, remember this scripture and remind yourself that God is with you always.

Don’t fear it, pray about it.

Fear can affect your relationship with God. When you fear, you are subconsciously doubting God. Don’t fear about anything, pray about it. Fear is not of God (2 Timothy 1:7). If you feel afraid about anything, remind yourself that this isn’t from God, God is all about love, joy and peace. Tell that fear verbally to be gone in Jesus name. God says in His words, Not to be afraid He will help you (Isaiah 41:10).

Is there any area in your life that you are afraid of or you need help from God? Pray about it. Talk to God about. It’s about communication. I remember recently when I was at work, we were looking for a client’s file, we looked everywhere and could not find it. Just before we nearly gave up, I remembered that I have the Holy Spirit to help me, immediately I asked the Holy Spirit to help me find this file. As I began praying, I found myself looking for the file at a place where no one thought it would be...and I found it. I gave God the glory ofcourse.

Earlier this year, it was book week and my son was told to wear his favourite book character costume to school. He asked his dad to buy him a spider man costume which his dad did. However, my son didn’t like the mask that came with the custume. So he decided to look for his old Spider-Man mask to wear with the new costume. He could not find it and he asked me to help (with a sad face) I explained to him why I couldn’t help because I had to get ready for work and we had to leave the house in about 20 mins or so. He was sad but he still kept on searching. As I got ready, I prayed and asked the Holy Spirit to help him find the mask. Not long after as I was having a bath, the Holy Spirit must’ve led him to a place to find it...and he did. Jason ran into the bathroom all happy that he found it.

In conclusion, a relationship with the Holy Spirit is a relationship with Jesus. The Holy Spirit enables us to be close to Jesus. In order to be close to Jesus, you need to recognise Him as your Lord and Saviour, you need to spend intentional quality time with Him, you need to communicate with Him and tell Him about everything and anything, you need to be still in His precence, you need to trust and have faith in Him. There is so much joy in having a close and personal relationship with Jesus. He will ensure that you walk in alignment with His will for you. He will partner with you and do His work through you (Purposeful living) etc.

Praying about something is the same as taking to the Holy Spirit. It's all about communication, it's a relationship.

If sometimes you feel you cannot hear God, position yourself in a place of solitude, a quiet place where it is just you and God. Just worship Him....no matter how you feel just worship Him. And God will show up.

Prayer

I pray for you today that God would give you the desires to know Him more, that you will be strengthened with might through the Holy Spirit in the inner man, that Jesus Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend how high, how deep, how long and how wide God's love for you is, though it is too great to understand fully, so that you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes form God, in Jesus name, Amen.
